Inspired by conversations with working women The Array is dedicated to empowering contemporary women through their collections, which are designed by research and every garment is crafted to be as beautiful as it is functional. Founded by Yvonne Lim and Shaonan graduates of The Royal College of Art MA Fashion, in December 2020, after being accepted into the Creative Brand Accelerator program within the College’s start-up incubator, InnovationRCA.
The label’s debut Collection [ 1 ], was inspired by a special series of personal interviews the designers conducted with a diverse group of working women. These interviews became the foundation of the research and development towards the making of Collection [ 1 ]. “Our process starts with extensive research, including an online survey and a series of personal interviews with working women. The conversations we had with these women have been a substantial source of inspiration for us in the development of the collection.” The collection focuses on an edited array of garments that are most relevant to contemporary women, which is a combination of both workwear classics and new essentials.
Each piece designed is evaluated and elevated, from fabric choices to pocket details. Every single element of each garment is thoughtfully designed and considered. After speaking to one of their interviewees who mention how amazing it would be to have a pair of trousers with adjustable hem lengths, which led to the creation of their Transformative Trousers. The designers looked into this brilliant idea and created a hem that can be cuffed inwards and secured onto hidden buttons, so the length can be easily adjusted according to footwear choice. “We want women to feel instantly confident and comfortable in THE ARRAY outfits, so all they need to focus on is their work, purpose and ambitions.”
Every investment piece within the collection is designed by research and is thoughtfully crafted to be as beautiful as it is functional. The label’s signature tab closure detail, featured on many pieces within Collection [ 1 ], was created to prevent chest gaps on the brand’s signature shirts – a problem many working women cited as a distraction. With a focus on natural performance fabrics, intelligent design and a versatile seasonless wardrobe, The Array create new luxury essentials that are designed with the working woman in mind. The collection is produced locally in London with a careful selection of natural, sustainable materials. To discover more from The Array, visit www.the-array.com
