The annual Met Gala is a fabulous display of style, catching the eyes of millions of viewers at home. Let’s just say, celebrities know that their outfit to this prestigious event matters. This year, the theme was ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’. Billie Eilish chose to dress for the theme more consciously by wearing an upcycled Gucci frock to the Met Gala 2022.

At the Met Gala 2021, Billie Eilish collaborated with Oscar de la Renta for her look. Her Monroe-inspired dress in 2021 stole the show, but this year the singer wanted to convey a new message about sustainability. On the red carpet, she explained, “I just wanted to be as eco-friendly as possible.” As a 20-year-old, Billie Eilish has always been an influential and relatable Gen Z figure, so her efforts will not go unnoticed.

Other celebrities took a step towards sustainability by re-wearing garments, rather than having a whole gown created for the event. Actress Emma Stone rewore her wedding dress from her marriage to David McCary in 2020.

Kim Kardashian stunned crowds in Marilyn Monroe’s Jean Louis dress worn in 1962. She sparkled in the vintage piece and took to Instagram to express her gratitude for being able “to debut this evocative piece of fashion history for the first time since the late Marilyn Monroe wore it.”

Emily Ratajkowski was another star to bring vintage fashion to the Met Gala 2022. The colourful number was created for the 1992 Versace collection and was only worn once by model Yasmeen Gauri.
